Question of the Day: How much does the average American plan to spend on a graduation gift?

Remember to read the card first!

Answer: $119.54

Questions:

  • The average graduation gift keeps rising even in a year when most consumers say they're cutting back elsewhere. Why do you think this category keeps growing?
  • If you were the one choosing what to do with graduation gift money you received, what factors would shape your decision?

  • When you're the one giving a graduation gift someday how will you decide how much to spend?

Here are the ready-to-go slides for this Question of the Day you can use in your classroom.

Behind the numbers (National Retail Federation):

"According to NRF’s annual survey, 36% of respondents plan to buy a gift for a high school or college graduate in 2025. Total spending is expected to reach a record $6.8 billion. Once again, cash is the top gift respondents plan to give."
