How and Why NGPF Retires Curriculum

The NGPF Curriculum Team regularly updates the curriculum so that it is current and reflects the world in which your students are making financial decisions. A part of this updating process sometimes requires retiring resources to make way for new, fresh content to use with your students. Keep reading to learn more about the curriculum retirement process.

What does it mean when a resource is “retired”?

A retired resource is no longer a part of the core NGPF curriculum and is no longer maintained by NGPF. It has been removed from any courses and units and may contain outdated information and/or broken links.

Why does NGPF retire curriculum?

To stay current and provide the best curriculum possible! All the resources available on the NGPF website are maintained to ensure their quality and relevance.

Typically, a resource was retired because it met one or more of the following criteria:

  • Outdated: The content covered in the resource is outdated and no longer relevant
  • Low Quality: The quality of the resource no longer meets our rigorous standards
  • Down Websites: A calculator, website, or other tool that was essential for completing the resource is no longer available and there is no suitable replacement
  • Overlap: There is a better, more engaging resource available in the NGPF curriculum that achieves the same learning objectives

How do I know when a resource is retired?

The NGPF Curriculum Team will notify teachers of major changes to units and courses via the NGPF Blog.

When retiring standalone resources, such as an Activity, Data Crunch, FinCap Friday or Question of the Day, we may or may not publish a blog post depending on the resource.

What happens once NGPF retires a curriculum resource?

  • The resource is removed from the NGPF curriculum, Nearpods, etc. and is no longer available on the website
  • We add “[RETIRED]” to the resource in all relevant documents so that teachers are aware of the change if they still have the link to the resource
  • If applicable, the resource is moved to the NGPF Retired Resources spreadsheet (more on that below).

Can I still access the retired material?

We highly recommend using the curriculum that is live on the NGPF website, as those resources are updated and maintained. However, we do offer access to retired resources for a limited period of time. You can find them in the NGPF Retired Resources spreadsheet at the bottom of your NGPF Teacher Account.

Note: There are some cases in which we will not add a retired resource to the spreadsheet. These may include but are not limited to: the quality of the resource is deemed very poor, the content is no longer accurate or is outdated.
